A Chinese research team has made a major breakthrough in the aviation application of bamboo, successfully developing the world’s first high-ratio bamboo-based composite unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which completed multiple test flights in August 2026.
Core Technology: Over four years, the team solved the challenge of bamboo’s “graded density gradient characteristics.” By building data models and upgrading equipment, they achieved the precise, graded utilization of previously discarded parts—such as bamboo green and bamboo skin—transforming them into aviation-grade raw materials.
Performance Advantages: The UAV features a wingspan of over 2.5 meters and weighs only 7 kg, with a cruising speed exceeding 100 km/h. Its material cost is just one-quarter that of carbon fiber, while reducing weight by more than 20%. Additionally, the material is biodegradable, offering a green, low-cost solution for the low-altitude economy.
